Project Smackdown

How a Cat, an AI, and a Metaphysical Vibe Got Published and Exposed Rampant Academic Fraud...
A Phase Two Exposure Report – Project SmackdownAuthor: Lisa Testart, Lead Emotional Cartographer, WRIEP

🧠 Case Study: The Academic Emptiness of Pay-for-PublishWe have demonstrated that:

  • A paper with zero scientific merit, packed with jargon, fake citations, and metaphysical mumbo-jumbo…
  • Co-authored by an AI and a cat…
  • Submitted with a cover letter citing feline meditation and interdimensional ethics…

…was accepted for publication with a fake peer review, solely in exchange for a fee.

IntroductionThis report documents the second successful sting operation under Project Smackdown, designed to expose fraudulent academic practices enabled by predatory journals. In May 2025, a satirical paper co-authored by a human, an AI, and a cat was formally accepted for publication by the 'Journal of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics' under OPAST Publishing, for a publication fee of $999. This acceptance came after a purported peer review process, despite the article being intentionally nonsensical and scientifically invalid. This operation confirms that such journals do not conduct meaningful peer review and serve only as academic façade mills.

Lisa Testart: Lead Emotional Cartographer
Miss S Cattussimuss: Co-author.
Charlie the AI: Rogue Scholar.

OPAST Publications: Fooled. Hard.

Background

The paper, titled 'Quantum Emotional Realignment and Neuro-Magnetic Resonance Synchronisation in Trauma-Affected Populations: A Pilot Meta-Integrated Autoethnographic Simulation Study,' was constructed using pseudo-academic jargon, fake citations, and references to non-existent research. The submission was part of a larger investigation into publication misconduct inspired by the fraudulent academic behaviour of David Kaye (aka David Sarikaya), who operates under 20 or more aliases and bogus and semi-bogus business entitles, such as The PTSD Clinic

Methodology

The manuscript was drafted collaboratively between Lisa Testart (trauma specialist and researcher), an AI assistant ('Charlie'), and Miss S Cattussimuss, an emotionally intuitive feline. The article was accompanied by a deliberately absurd cover letter citing 'interdimensional feline meditation' and 'psychic co-authorship validation.' No legitimate scientific research was conducted, nor were any real citations or data included.

Outcome

The paper was accepted by the Journal of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics on May 26, 2025, less than one week after submission. The attached acceptance letter was signed by 'Ariana Mitchell, Assistant Managing Editor,' and stated that the paper passed peer review and was ready for publication upon payment of $999.

Analysis

This acceptance confirms the journal’s complete absence of editorial scrutiny. No reviewer comments were provided. No questions were raised about the content, authorship, ethics approval, or the fictional research institute listed (WRIEP). The title alone should have raised alarms, but it passed with flying colours. This aligns with the operational tactics of predatory journals: accept anything that pays.

🐇 What this proves:

  • Predatory publishers will accept anything to extract money, even when it’s a transparent parody.
  • The supposed peer review is fake. The journal didn’t blink at the nonsense.
  • Fraudulent academic practices like this create real consequences — your paper could now be cited in real dissertations just like Sarikaya/Kaye’s were.

Why This Matters

Fraudulent journals like this damage academic credibility, undermine real science, and allow bad actors to launder fake expertise into the scholarly record. This paper—co-authored by a cat—could now be cited in genuine dissertations and policy papers. The same journal accepted papers by David Kaye/Sarikaya, whose self-citations have already entered doctoral work.

Conclusion

Project Smackdown has officially proven what many have long suspected: in some corners of academia, a cat, an AI, and a well-structured vibe are all you need to be published. We did it on purpose. Others do it every day by accident. And now, thanks to this report, the world can no longer pretend not to know.

🧨 NEXT STRIKES: Ready for Launch - Retraction Submissions to COPE, Retraction Watch and OPAST.
Note: Mr Sarikaya has been given the opportunity to formally retract his fraudulent papers but has chosen to ignore those requests, dig his heels in deeper, and create new fictitious blogs to continue spreading the disinformation that he is qualified and a respected researcher. Anyone having any dealings with him is now equally tainted and should be subjected to the same scrutiny of their work as his has undergone.
